What started from humble beginnings, a little lumberyard, 1 truck and 5 employees grew into a 9-location retail business since Claire and Doug Sr. first founded Doug Ashy Building Materials back in 1960. Our journey to a 3-generation family-operated business was nothing short of highs and lows. It’s those very experiences, however, that have established our tradition of excellence rooted in community, hard work, and above all else, family.
It Takes a Village
Doug Ashy Building Materials wouldn’t be here today if it weren’t for the outpouring of love and support from our local competitors following a fire that claimed it all. While that response from competing businesses may sound unorthodox, it just goes to show how strong and caring our building community is in Acadiana.
It’s a part of our story that gets us emotional no matter how many times we share it because it’s the greatest gift our competitors, customers, friends and family could have ever given us—a chance at rebuilding our business to grow it into the legacy it has become today.

Giving Back to Acadiana
As a member of the Acadiana Home Builders Association, we’ve further continued the Doug Ashy tradition of helping our community build their dreams through our annual sponsorship with Home for the Holidays—a yearly giveaway featuring a grand prize of a turnkey house.
The proceeds from this event directly benefit shelter-related charitable agencies in Lafayette, Louisiana and help a local family put the true meaning in “home for the holidays” each season.
